The Training Consortium of South Central Kentucky
The Training Consortium of South Central Kentucky, an innovative partnership between Western Kentucky University, the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce, Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College, and several partner companies, provides effective training for Warren County industries at a nominal cost and holds training locally with minimal interruption to the work schedule. Local industries maintain a minimal investment to gain access to valuable training for their employees.
The Western Kentucky University Center for Training and Development--a unit of the Division of Extended Learning and Outreach--and the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce's Workforce Development Committee partnered to create the program with the following objectives:
-
Provide training on critical skill gaps as identified by the industry.
-
Secure various grants to help offset costs.
-
Enhance the local economic development infrastructure by enticing potential employers to locate in the region.
-
Ensure the program is easy to use and meets existing employers' needs.
In 2008, the Consortium began offering non-credit online training courses to its members through Continuing Education at WKU. The online format provides added appeal, allowing the flexibility needed in today's changing workforce. Courses are offered on a quarterly basis and range in scope from accounting principles to customer service to management and supervision. Click here to view a schedule of the courses offered.
