Metcalfe County

Metcalfe County provides easy access to major markets while offering a small-town feel with a population of 10,438 as of 2008. Just over 50 miles from Bowling Green (Warren County), Metcalfe County is located near the Louie B. Nunn Parkway “Future I-66 Corridor,” providing its residents with easy access to larger cities in the surrounding areas.

The county is governed by Judge Executive Greg Wilson and four magistrates. The 1,638 (as of 2007) residents of the county seat, Edmonton, are served by Mayor Howard Garrett. Both city and county governments combine their efforts to maintain and enhance the lives of county residents.

Boasting an overall low cost of business, the county is an attractive location for manufacturing and service industries, including its largest employers Sumitomo Electric Wiring Systems Inc. and Kingsford Charcoal.

Transportation

Metcalfe County’s transportation system includes parkways and air services within close proximity.

Highway

Metcalfe County has access the Louie B. Nunn Parkway “Future I-66 Corridor” allowing access to I-65 to the west and I-75 to its east. This access to I-65N puts residents within 116 miles of Louisville, Ky., and within 113 miles from Nashville, Tenn., by way of I-65S.

Air

Regional air service is available in Glasgow, Ky., (20 miles west) and Bowling Green, Ky., (52 miles southwest). The Glasgow airport features a 4,000-ft. runway while Bowling Green offers a 6,500-ft. runway and an FFA Flight service station. Services provided at the airport include charter service, corporate flight management, air freight, land-air express, corporate flights, and Federal Express.

Commercial flights are available at the Louisville International Airport (69 miles north), and the Nashville International Airport (about 112 miles southwest). Louisville International Airport has three runways: 11,890, 8,579, and 7,250 ft. long.

Communication/Media

Television, radio, newspaper, internet and telephone are available in Metcalfe County. A diverse variety of local radio stations fill the airwaves including WNKN 99.1 FM.Through the South Central Rural Telephone Cooperative, Metcalfe County boasts 100% residential broadband internet access.  AT&T and Mediacom also connect residents to the internet, as well as provide landline telephone coverage. AT&T, Bluegrass Cellular, Sprint PCS, and T-Mobile offer mobile coverage options.

Land and Infrastructure

The city of Edmonton is home to both the Edmonton-Metcalfe County Industrial Park and the Edmonton Industrial Park #2. These industrial parks encompass a total of 45 acres and are located within a few miles from the Louie B. Nunn Parkway. With access to major roadways and within 115 miles from two metropolitan cities, these industrial parks provide an ideal location for new industrial business.

Industry

Metcalfe County is proud to have several of employers in the manufacturing and service & support industries locate here in the past several years. Businesses such as Sumitomo Electric Wiring Systems Inc, Kingsford Manufacturing Co., Topps Safety Apparel Inc., James Ritter Lumber Co Inc., and Carhartt, Inc. have found much success in Metcalfe County.

Education

For the 2006-2007 school years, 1,712 students were enrolled in the Metcalfe County School System. This district offers a curriculum that supersedes a basic education and emphasizes student’s success.

Metcalfe County is within driving distance of higher education opportunities as well. Less than an hour away are Western Kentucky University (WKU), Bowling Green Technical College (BGTC) and Draughons Junior College in Bowling Green. WKU and BGTC offer distance learning classes as well as a satellite campus at the Glasgow Regional Center.

Lifestyle

Metcalfe County provides its residents and visitors with a number of exciting and entertaining events. The Branstetter Park Bluegrass Festival provides everyone in the family with something to enjoy—from arts and crafts for the children to great music and food for the adults, this event is sure to make everyone happy.
