On January 5th
, the Kentucky General Assembly gaveled in for the 60 day budget session. With a new Governor, and the possibility of the House flipping to Republican leadership, we are sure to be in store for an exciting session. As I mentioned earlier, we are working with the administration on the workforce development system, and we are also working on the legislative front. SCR 75
, sponsored by Sen. David Givens would create the Kentucky Workforce Oversight Task Force, and would direct a top to bottom review of the state's workforce development system. In our discussions with Sen. Givens, we understand this Task Force would not only review the system, but would also work with the business and education communities to develop recommendations toward making Kentucky's system a world class workforce development system. We are in support of this bill, and we would encourage you to let our legislative delegation know just how important this is to your business. If you would be willing to provide a letter of support for the pursuit of a world-class workforce development system in Kentucky, please contact me by email
or directly at 270-901-4611.
Other bills that we are watching:
: A resolution to encourage the Kentucky Board of Education to continue and expand collaboration with the Council on Postsecondary Education, the Education Professional Standards Board, and the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce to align policies and practices in support of career and technical education.
: A tax credit for research and development expenses that businesses pay to public universities.
