Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce Collaborates with Commerce Lexington

Posted by: Ron Bunch, President and CEO
With the new year, comes the new administration and some exciting opportunities in workforce development.  We are pleased to report that in collaboration with Commerce Lexington, we were able to spend two hours with Governor Bevin and Secretary Heiner in a private meeting in Frankfort. Attending the meeting were the CEOs of the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce and Commerce Lexington as well as the Manager of Government Relations for Toyota, the Commerce Lexington Chairman of the Board, and the Economic Development Project Manager from LG&E. The meeting was a frank discussion of the issues surrounding the workforce development in the Commonwealth and we were very pleased with their commitment to having a world class workforce development system in the Commonwealth, and their willingness to listen to the perspective of the business community.  As we continue to work on this issue, we will be sure to keep you updated!

Additionally, I wanted to highlight an exciting announcement we shared last week - the launch of our Manufacturing Career Center!  The Center is a collaboration among partners including SKYCTC, ResCare, various non-profit agencies and several of our local targeted businesses. The Center will help companies find well-trained talent through recruitment and job fair events, as well as link job seekers with training opportunities to prepare them for the positions our companies have to offer. Read more about it here.
