Bowling Green, Ky. (December 2, 2015) – The Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce was recently named as a High Performance Economic Development organization by industry leader Atlas Advertising at the International Economic Development Council’s Annual Conference in Anchorage, AK.

Atlas developed an economic development-specific approach to “strategic doing” enabling EDO’s to operate more effectively and sustainably – High Performance Economic Development (HPED), a results based economic development marketing and strategy initiative. An Atlas-conducted survey tracked website visits, conversations, job announcements and capital investment among participating EDO’s across the United States. The Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce topped the list in capital investment and conversations in the 100,001-250,000 population range category.

The Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce reported $1 billion in capital investment between August 2014 and August 2015; approximately 500 times the average of similar-sized communities in the same reporting period.

“We are honored to be recognized by Atlas Advertising as a High Performance Economic Development organization in the United States,” said President & CEO of the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce, Ron Bunch. “We recognize the importance of successful marketing efforts and how they correlate to the success of both the Chamber’s ability to attract new targeted businesses to the area, as well as the ability to retain and expand our existing targeted businesses throughout the South Central Kentucky region.”

According to the same study, the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce peaked at 1,200 conversations between August 2014 and August 2015. Conversations produce more qualified leads, can influence location decisions, company relocations and eventually pave the way to increasing capital investment in the community. Bowling Green generated, on average, 88% more inquiries and conversations than other organizations in the same category.

“The Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce continually does an excellent job in implementing strategies for growth in the South Central Kentucky area. Their work to grow our economic base by nurturing existing business and recruiting complimentary targeted business to the area is not by accident,” stated Mayor Bruce Wilkerson. “The city of Bowling Green is proud to work with the Chamber and County in helping to establish a cohesive marketing effort for the community.”

As of November 2015, the BGACC has announced 21 economic development projects with $897,777,235 in capital investment by new and existing companies in South Central Kentucky and 983 jobs. Bowling Green is home to two of the top five investment projects in the state and for the 3rd consecutive year, Bowling Green has the top investment in the state by a manufacturer. Additionally, Bowling Green has received national recognition throughout 2015 including accolades from Site Selection and Area Development magazines.

Among metropolitan areas with populations less than 200,000, the city of Bowling Green this year ranked 4th on Site Selection’s Top 10 Metro Areas for New and Expanded Facilities in 2014. This is Bowling Green’s second consecutive year on this list, climbing from 6th last year to 4th this year. Site Selection bases this ranking on projects that involve a capital investment of at least $1 million, creates at least 50 new jobs or adds at least 20,000 SF of new floor area.

Area Development magazine awarded Kentucky with a Silver Shovel Award in their summer 2015 issue recognizing the Commonwealth as one of the most successful states in creating jobs and securing investments in 2014. This award is based on Kentucky’s top 10 job-creation and investment projects in 2014. Bowling Green’s Quiver Ventures was included in this top 10 list with 80 jobs and $155.9 million in investment.

“Bowling Green is a vibrant community and the only way to ensure that our true potential is met is to have a solid plan in place that will reach the right people,” said Judge Executive Michael Buchanon. “For the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce to be recognized as ‘High Performing’ is a well-deserved acknowledgement - South Central Kentucky strives to set benchmarks in economic development and Atlas Advertising has confirmed that we are moving in the right direction.”
