AHK, a subsidiary of Howa Textile Industry Ltd., headquartered in Kasugai, Japan, was one of the first landmark companies to locate in Bowling Green's Kentucky Transpark. Since beginning operations in 2007, AHK has expanded three times. This new expansion will bring total employment to 225 and will increase their facility to 242,000 SF.
"We are grateful and excited to announce that American Howa Kentucky's new business requires us to expand our current facility in Bowling Green," said AHK Plant Manager Gary McPeak. "We want to thank the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce, state and local officials for their support and assistance."
AHK specializes in planning, development, manufacture and sale of automotive interior parts including: dashboard insulators, headliners, sunshade trim, door trim, luggage trim and other interior trim for the automotive industry. AHK's Bowling Green facility is a supplier for Toyota, Honda and Nissan.
"We are pleased that AHK is experiencing great success in their Bowling Green plant," said Warren County Judge-Executive Mike Buchanon. "This expansion is an exciting opportunity for the people of South Central Kentucky."
"Since beginning operations in 2007, AHK has undergone several expansions and has served as a staple company at the Kentucky Transpark. We look forward to the future and what may be in store for AHK in Bowling Green and South Central Kentucky," said Bowling Green Mayor Bruce Wilkerson.
This project announcement falls less than a year after AHK announced their fourth North American plant, second in Kentucky, to be located in Midway to service the Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky facility in Georgetown with headliners for the Toyota Camry.
This expansion announcement brings Howa's investment in Kentucky to over $21 million since the end of 2015. Howa's other North American operations are in Delaware, Ohio and Ontario.
"We are proud to celebrate AHK's success in South Central Kentucky. As the first to purchase a speculative building at the Transpark, AHK has been a longstanding member of our region's automotive industry. Over 11,000 people are employed by the automotive sector in South Central Kentucky and that sector continues to grow. AHK's expansion is further evidence that our region's companies are thriving," said Chamber President and CEO, Ron Bunch. "We look forward to AHK's continued success in Bowling Green."
Including this announcement, the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce has announced $367 million in capital investment and 484 new jobs in South Central Kentucky for 2016.
